UFS101 - 2nd Vocabulary Entry

Word : Poverty


Meaning : Is the state of one who lacks a certain amount of material possessions or money.
Example : With only the money that engels could raise, the marx family lived in extreme poverty .


Word : Destitution



Meaning : Without the basic necessities of life ; not having . 
Example : At one stage he ended up destitution in a homeless men's hostel . 


Word : Inability


Meaning : Lack of sufficient power, resources, and capacity.
Example : The inability of the government to cope with the problem .


Word : Incapable 


Meaning : Lacking the necessary ability, competence, strength, etc.
Example : They have proved incapable of pushing through many of the reforms they promised. 


Word : Starvation

 
Meaning : The act or an instance of starving .
Example : Whatever the cause, some brain cells die from oxygen starvation.


Word : Deprivation


Meaning : A depriving or begin deprived .
Example : The aim is to tackle deprivation in the most deprived areas.


Word : Dearth 


Meaning : A lack or small supply of something .
Example : Dearth of literature which deals with the issue of race in organization in the UK .


Word : Thwart 


Meaning : To hinder or stop something from happening.
Example : Thwart attempts to disguise alcohol by mixing it with soft drinks.


Word : Famine 


Meaning : An acute and general shortage of food; or a period of this. 
Example : The irish famine of 1845 gave him the excuse for which he was looking.


Word : Drought 


Meaning : Is a long period of time when where is no rain.
Example : Two severe drought have left people with very little food- everyone is hungry.
